Lilah - 16 Months
This is a long and overdue post about Miss Lilah! In the past 6 weeks she's really gone from my baby to a toddler. She understands everything we say to her and in the past 1-2 weeks she's gone through a signing revelation! It's finally made a click in her head and she knows that it can get her what she wants. She's signing milk, more, food/eat, baby, dog, cat, bird, horse, please, all done, drink, water, cracker, yes, and no. For "yes" she shakes her whole body in a yes hahah. Cat was her first used word after mom and dad and it was also her first sign. Hanging beside the change table in their nursery are three pictures I framed made from felt. A bird, a panda, and a cat. It was this cat that she loved and we'd talk about when I was changing her and Abby was the one to show her the sign for cat and she picked it up from that minute on. This prompted us to really kick in our teaching time and obviously she was ready to learn! She's also starting to say things clearly so we can all understand. The best example of this is "thank you". It's so cute to hear her say it.
I have been extremely impressed and relived that her pain tolerance has seemed to increase. Teething time use to be excruciating for all of us with endless hours of crying no matter how much medicine, teething gel, cold rags, and ice we gave her. Right now she's teething two bottom first molars and one top first molar .....on most days you wouldn't even know it! Every now and then she'll get a little whiny and will have her hand in her mouth so I'll pull out the teething gel and that's all it takes to get her over the hump.
Her over all happiness has increase 100% along with her independence. She's not afraid of situations as much as she was before and most times she'll allow other children and people to approach her without her freaking out. She's even been letting strangers pick her up (not strangers to me, but to her) I never thought I'd see that day come lol. She loves to dance, climb, and swing and over all has become a little daredevil just like her sister, but she is a little bit accident prone. I don't think we have ever made it though a day without her bumping her head at least once and about 10 times a day is more normal. We are always saying "aawww your poor little head".
The most resent update would be the beginning of our potty training. We decided to do the Potty Training Boot Camp and within the first hour she did a teeny tiny pee in her potty. Since it's so cold right now we are limited on when we can do the diaper free time, so it's going to be relaxed and when the house gets all toasty and warm, but I think it'll be no time and she'll be using her potty like a big girl. Emmy was an broke early at 19 months, but Lilah may really blow her out of the water with this one! What can I say? I've got really brilliant children :) but if it takes her till 19 months it won't bother me in the slightest.

Teething Gel, Good for Babies, Good for Moms!
Lilah's second tooth popped through this morning! (her bottom left) I've been looking for it like crazy because she's been pretty darn fussy. Big hugs and kisses to Carolyn for picking up some super good teething gel from the hospital!! It really seems to help. It's also good for numbing bitten bleeding nips. She got me the other day with just a tiny bite, but she got me good a little bit ago with some blood. Ouch! I really hope this doesn't keep up.

Another First For Lilah!

We got giggles!
I got Lilah to give me real giggles today! She loves to be whooshed up into the air and brought down for kisses. What baby doesn't?! I kept trying to get her into a roaring laugh but we'd peak at a high squeal haha.
Emmy is full on teething. She cut her bottom left first molar on Monday and the right side is super puffy and swollen. It won't be more than a day or two and it'll be through the skin too. Needless to say this will be the excuse for her naughty behavior. She's also saying a new word almost daily or a word much more clearer. Her clearest words are Daddy, Cookie, Eat, Water, Bye Bye, No, Dog, Shoes, Hot, Bubbles, Bird.. and I'm probably missing a few. Words not so clear are Up, Lilah, Book, Hat, and Banana, she says "nana". Oh and Clock which is odd since all the other words she knows the signs for. She picked up Kim's watch one day and brought it to me and I told her "that's a watch; a clock" and she said "clock" but try and get her to say Mom...... no way! Just once in a great while do I hear a "mom".
I've been wanting to dress them up and try getting some super cute photo's of them together this week but so far it's been too darn cold to attempt it. As soon as we get a warmer day we'll have to play camera time.

number Seven & Eight
Tooth # 7 & 8 have made there appearance at the same time for Miss Emmy. There is a new tooth on each side of her top front teeth. She didn't feel well during the night and was moaning a bit and I didn't know it was tooth related until 10 am this morning. She had an elevated body temperature of 100 F and drooling like a drunk. Both had broke the skin so she's probably been uncomfortable for the past 2 days or so. I feel like a jerk again, but I have to remind myself that if she's in pain she'd let me know. Mothers guilt I guess *sigh* The next in line to cut will be her first molars... those will be pretty big so I don't think I'll miss the beginning of them and I'll be able to pump her full of pain relief and supply her with endless ice sticks.
Here's a tip for all you mom's with baby's that are teething. I bought one of those ice cube trays that makes the ice into sticks so it can go down into water bottles. They are perfect for little hands to hold to and chew/suck when it's hot out or for sore gum's. Emmy thinks ice is candy or in her case more appropriately a drug haha and just loves when I give them to her.
I'm very excited and anxious for her party this Sunday! See you all there!

toothie pegs
I've been very wrapped up in watching to catch the day Emmy's second top tooth breaks the skin and it's almost there! I took some pictures this morning trying to capture one showing how white the area is.

Well... my mother in law was up today and she found that Emmy's bottom 3rd tooth is fully broken through and poking up. I was so excited and astonished that I hadn't seen it. The grandma's really have me out numbered on finding her new teeth! haha
(This picture isn't the best, but you can see the glistening of the 3rd tooth. It's set back a bit further than the other two right now.)
I knew she's been teething because she really enjoys her teething sticks when I give them too her and she's never interested in them unless she's wanting to really chew because of sore gums. She's also been up in the night a few times crying and unsettled when her medicine wears off, but the poor little thing....... she was in double the pain and yet again I'm the airhead that had no idea, but at least this time she was getting some pain medicine before bed since I suspected she needed it. During the day she's her normal self and I'm pretty lucky that it doesn't bother her.

I also gave her a bit of a hair trim this morning when she was in the bath. I just gave her sides more of an angle since it's grown nearly 3 inches since her last hair cut. Just two little snips and it was done... no one would probably notice unless I pointed it out, but I had to mention it because it's the first time I have taken sheers to her hair myself!

tooth number 3

I meant to post this the other day. Last week Emmy cut her upper left butter tooth (upper incisor)! She had a couple nights were she woke up crying and I didn't know what was wrong but now I suspect it must have been teething pain. I feel pretty bad that I wasn't able to give her any pain medicine, but it must have not been hard on her because she settled down when offered a bottle and cuddles and during the day she didn't have any symptoms.
I got out my baby book and she has followed my teething pattern. I got both my bottom teeth a week apart the same time she did. My mom wrote in that I cut my 3rd tooth Jan 28th 1983 and she cut hers on Jan 15th but the difference between our birthdays is about a week, so she got her 3rd tooth the same as me almost to the day.. just 27 years apart lol. I got my 4th tooth a week after the 3rd so I'm keeping my eye out for number four. I don't see anything yet but I'll keep you posted!

chocolate face

I'm guilty! I bribed Emmy yesterday with chocolate to buy me a few minutes to finish up a project I was working on. She only had a few tiny bits but look at the mess she made. Looks yummy! haha Her bottom teeth are really coming in too and the pictures show that pretty good, no sign of any top teeth yet.

purdue day
I dressed Emmy up in her Purdue gear to match her daddy! It was a bit chilly that morning but it didn't take long to warm up and we had to change. We were heading down to the country market they have every Sunday morning and then to Auntie Robins & Uncle Bob's house for lunch.

As of last yesterday I am confident that Emmy is cutting another tooth. This will be her first on the top. It hasn't cut through yet but she's been cranky, red cheeks, chewing on rags like crazy, and just not herself in general. Poor baby!

2nd tooth
Grandma Betsy found Emmy's second tooth yesterday morning after we got up. It's the other front bottom tooth. She was a bit fussy the night before and had rosy cheeks so I gave her a dose of baby Tylenol and that helped her sleep through the night. She seems to be following my pattern of cutting teeth so I assume she'll be done for a while. I got my first two close together on the bottom and then didn't' get another one for several months and her dad didn't get his first tooth until 10 months old. So it'll be interesting to see if she completely follows my genetics on this one.

teeth

Grandma Betsy found a baby tooth broke through on the bottom left this morning. It's her lower central incisor! How exciting! I hope the rest of her teething goes as smoothly as this one did. No crying, additional drooling, or fever. You can tell her lower lateral incisor should not be far behind despite the lack of redness.
For other update news... it shouldn't be long before she is crawling. She's starting to rock and try to pull up on her knees and if you give her ground from behind she can get up on all fours for a little bit before she falls.
