Emerson's 1st Art Class

*ART*

I think being creative and artistic is important and giving my children the tools necessary to fully express themselves is important.  It broke my heart to find out there there isn't a specific art class away from normal class time in the primary schools here. 

Art Class was always my favorite day of the week from Kindergarten right through to High School!  I was so excited for Emmy to have the opportunity to join in a before school Art Class for an additional fee this term.  She was the youngest in the class (mixed in with upto grade 6 & 7's) but as you'll see at the bottom in the note from her Art Teacher..... she held her own great!  Totally love my creative little girls!  Below are some of the things that she brought home.... there's a few that I didn't photograph since they were practice pieces, but there is a doggie oil pastel picture that I need to still get photographed....

Free drawing fish with different techniques and tools to color them in.

Learning quick ways to draw kitties using oil pastels! 

I love this one!  They used paint markers to embellish and do graffiti art over a photograph!

This was about blending different colors with different styles.

She was very proud of her mask! It's obviously grapes and leaves :) 

This was made from scratch for Father's Day!  It's a paper weight that looks like daddy!  She put rocks together and used papier-mâché over it to form the head and them decorated it.  I totally love this one!!!  

First Day of Art Class- Working on Oil Pastel Dogs

Emerson is just the cutest little girl.

So lovely and definitely not intimidated in class.

She is extremely artistic and has a definite style and technique which is especially evident in her sketching ability. She was absorbed in every art activity and had no problem expressing herself.

She was not threatened by the age of the other children and they were really lovely with her.

I look forward to seeing her anytime she feels ready to return.

Ooops I forgot to take a picture of the finished project, but I opted for simple triangle eyes and smile face.  By this point we had already painted pumpkins for 5 straight hours, cleaned up the mess, had dinner, cleaned up that mess and then they insisted that they carve some......so momma was feeling a bit lazy! hahaha

I did this free hand looking off a coloring page of Tinker Bell off my iPhone, but I don't think it really looks like her......I totally see Lady Gaga hahhahahah  I think it's the big nose with the big black eyebrow lol!

Vacant Fairy House: Renters Wanted

While watching the Disney Channel Emmy saw a DIY clip on making a fairy house. Of course she went crazy over it and there was no way I could turn down such a request!

 We started with the only two pieces of foam I could find in the house.  I taped them together with masking tape (I thought that would not repeal the paint) and we painted them with dark and lime green acrylic paint.

 

 While the base was drying we gathered up fallen sticks from the backyard and trimmed them to the perfect length.

 

 Next we started sticking them into the foam in a shape that we thought was FAIRY PERFECT!

 HOT GLUE TIME!  We gathered up pebbles, shells, and some fake flowers laying around in my sewing room.

Our Fairy House was complete with a sprinkling of glitter!  Emmy was adamant that the fairy dust was a must!!

 

 We made a pipe cleaner / shell snail for our Fairy House!

 Isn't he sooo cute!!

 Out of our shell collection we also made a Fairy Bed complete with Rug.

 

 The last step is to place your Fairy House somewhere quiet and then find a hiding spot.  Maybe you'll get to see a Fairy move in!

Easter Crafting

I spent the better part of a night and one morning cutting gobs of egg shapes, circles, and squares out of paint sample cards for the girls to decorate.  Originally I had intended the paint sample cards for another project so I only grabbed a bunch up in colors of blues and greens instead of every bright color....which would have worked better for Easter Eggs.  The girls didn't care though and they embellished them with crayons, markers, cupcake liners, goggle eyes, feathers, stickers, and anything else their hearts desired.  I made the mistake of showing the girls that they could cut the feathers to allow for "just a little hair" on top of an egg rather then a huge feather coming out of it's head.  I had feather fluffy all over my house for days and days!  I'm still finding pieces of it and they did it two weeks ago haha.

I made all these super cute Egg Holders using my Silhouette Machine.  I doubled up the cardstock and kept most of them where I can take them apart for flat pack so hopefully we'll have them for several Easters to come!

 You can see in the picture of our display at the top of the post that the kids also made Easter Picture Frames, some baskets, and cards.  They had a very busy and creative Easter!!
