watching her toys

Here's a little video my mom took of Emmy looking at her toys while she's jiggling them.

ink da foot

We decided to ink Emmy's foot today for her baby book. It started out pretty good, but got progressively difficult as she became upset with us. We thought it best to wait until another day to do the 3D mold and space the trauma out ha ha, but it was good fun!

Brodie loves to get in his cuddles too and doesn't mind sharing me with the baby!

best daddy ever!

Kim has been Super Daddy the past three nights and has volunteered for night duty. I'm disappointed that she's not breastfeeding, but it does have it's perks at times. Thanks honey!!

My pumping is starting to pick up and I'm making progress on supplying all of her feeds, but we're still supplementing with formula when we have to. Today was the first time we have heard her cry. I let her get really good and hungry before offering her the breast and boy did she get mad at me! She belted out her cries of frustration and hunger needless to say our session didn't last as long as I had intended and I caved in and got her a bottle, but we got in a good 15-20 minutes of trying.

Tomorrow we're going to attempt to do our 3D foot & hand mold kit. I'm sure it's going to be very messy and I really hope it turns out! Her feet and toes are freakishly long so it's going to be hilarious to have them framed in a shadow box!!

poor little belly

Everything is still going super well. She's a very happy baby and easy to take care of. We have been battling a bit of a wind/gas problem. She's super hard to burp and even when we get 3 good burps out of her she'll still seem to have more in there and we pat and pat and pat and bounce and rub and pat then pretty soon her belly starts to hurt. I feel so bad for her and we try so hard to prevent it. I went to the store and picked up Infacol Wind Drops that were recommended to me and they are fabulous! They have really worked on helping prevent the belly aches!

Infacol Wind Drops is an effective method of treating wind in babies and infants.
Babies get wind by swallowing tiny air bubbles when feeding, which become trapped,
causing pressure and discomfort in the stomach.

Infacol relieves infant wind before painful colic can occur.
Simethicone is the active ingredient in Infacol, which causes the small bubbles of gas
in the baby's stomach to join together.

This forms a larger bubble which can be easily expelled.
Infacol Wind Drops are sugar free and do not contain any antacids.

they call her mellow yellow

Emmy is doing great! She's such a good baby. She's 8 days old today and we've yet to hear a real cry or scream out of her. She's very relaxed and has me, my mom, and her daddy doting after her every need so there's really no reason for her to cry.
The pumping is going good and occasionally I can get her to latch on. Night times are awesome. We give her a feed at 11pm and we all settle into bed. She'll wake up around 3-3:30 am for a second feed then go back to sleep, and then again at 6 am and goes back down for another sleep till 8-8:30 am. I'm still wondering how I got so lucky! Hopefully all my babies will be so mellow.

Brodie has been super sweet with her and seems to just love the baby. He's given her a lick on the back of her head when we were letting him have a smell. How Cute!! He'll also bring her his toys... because he wants her to play with him :)

nappy change

Grandma keeps on taking tons of pictures and videos!!

breastfeeding

I've had a few of you asking me how the breastfeeding is going and I must say it's not going like I thought it would. When Emmy was first born she actively attempted to suckle and did so for an hour or so. That first night we spent together she just wanted to sleep but the midwife had me try and feed her at midnight, 2 am, 4 am, 6am and they kept an eye on her blood sugar since I had the GDM. She went down to 2.8 which is the lowest in the normal range they wanted her to go, so we then gave her some formula. We tried all day, the following night, and the next day to get her to latch on but she makes a tiny attempt and then falls asleep. She's really too tiny and too lazy to take on my amazon sized nips. So I started out with a manual breast pump and felt pretty hopeless that I was ever going to be able to pump enough to keep her on all breast milk regardless if it's bottle fed. Kim being the awesome husband and daddy that he is went out and bought me the Ameda Purely Yours Dual Breast Pump.

I now am pumping every 3 hours to try and keep up with her demand and also to encourage my milk to fully come in.... I'm feeling like a Jersey Milk Cow.. MooOOoOOoO! Our hope is that she'll get a bit bigger and she'll want to latch on. She tries, but it's just not clicked yet.
