Got out the walker today for some variety of playtime. Lilah is still way to small for it haha but they seemed to have a good time with it. Later on Emmy had to get in it and ran around the house like a maniac!

Snakes & Ladders Play Cafe

We took the girls on Friday to a play cafe here in Gawler called Snakes & Ladders. Total chaos but the loved it and it was fun for us too! My friend Amy brought along her little girl Layla who we hadn't seen since she was about 10 months old so that was super good to see them playing together!

Lilah has exploded in the past week with personality! Lots of cooing, eye contact, kicking to make her toys move and soundless laughs (we're still waiting on that first giggle!). She's got a bald ring around her head which I had hoped to prevent, but I don't think that's possible! Kim also says that he thinks that she knows who he is now and I agree.

As for Emmy... we did some artwork yesterday and surprisingly for paints there was no mess. I washed up the paintbrush and wiped off her hands and that was that. (see pictures below)

We seem to be on the upswing from our illness and I hope that this will be the last cold for the winter!! Emmy has been refusing formula for a while now (since she's been sick...3 weeks or so on and off) and when I can get some down her it's usually pumped breast milk with a scoop of formula because she likes it's taste better than my milk which is super sweet. I'm hoping that this will help her fight off colds in the future (Lilah doesn't get sick when when we are all sick!!). It's exciting that she can tolerate my milk now. I think it has to do with my diet and not taking in any dairy products. Possibly this is why I am able to feed Lilah because about 6 weeks ago I had a milk shake ( and i haven't had milk since early last December ) and she had such terrible belly pains and pooped near black water for a full day and that's not normal for her. I'm sorry is that too much information for you? Well.... what do you expect if you come here.....it's a blog about babies!! lol

To further back my hypothesis; earlier last week or so I pumped near 360 ml of milk for my neice who is lactose intolerant and she handeled the milk just fine although she will breakout in a rash when when she eats baked foods with milk and cheese. She's 8 months old. I wish I would have known this before I had Emmy, but I'm so glad I went off dairy and meats for Lilah even though everything I read and the doctors told me that my dairy intake didn't effect babies with lactose intolernce of mothers milk. So not true for these babies!

People freak out in general about children being raised vegitarian or vegan but if you do a little research you'll find that it's just fine and in some cases much better. Want to know 101 reasons why to not give your baby dairy either directly or through breast milk?!

Jan & Kingsley have gone away on vacation to Western Australia traveling along the coast. We talked with them last night on Gmail and snapped a few photo's. They stopped at an area known for whale spotting and were lucky enough to see a momma Wright Whale and her Calf. I can't wait to see the pictures and I'll have to post them!!


Lilah was showing off how well she can lay on her tummy and lift herself up last. She's 15 weeks today. I can't believe that! It seems forever ago that I was in the hospital with her but it also seems just like yesterday we got a new little baby to love.

You can see her long mullet in this photo haha Once she's sitting up I'll cut it off... I just can't bring myself to do it yet!

and the sickness continues...

It seems like I haven't had time to post lately and every time I do Emmy is sick again. Today our furnace decided to not work and Emmy began running a temperature with a new runny nose. We had a visit with our nieces who were also getting over colds but I fear we may have caught their bug since we didn't have a runny nose or temp with this last bout of illness. She's completely gone off milk again but is eating foods this time around and of course she still loves her water. I put the electric blanket on the couch on low to sit on when I get too cold to make it more comfortable for nursing Lilah and Emmy enjoyed it's warmth as well on and off today. Hopefully Kim will know what to do to fix it tonight, if not then we'll be receiving a house call from the heating man! I wish I had more to tell but it's just been one cold after another. I did get the wonderful blessing of Lilah blowing out her diaper TWICE today!! I'm talking a total strip down and washing of her and her clothes. She didn't seem in any discomfort leading up to it but surely she feels better lol

Some things we have to look forward to is Disney Princesses On Ice in 2 weeks and Baby Boogie Dance Class in a month. It runs for 10 weeks every Monday morning. I think it will be super fun for Emmy and hopefully Lilah will enjoy watching it going on. I'll wear her in the wrap or sit her in the bumbo ... which ever she enjoy's more. It will be nice to get out of the house and do something together that is out of routine like just going to the supermarket, plus the physical activity she's really needing right now will be good!

Another Lilah First

Last night she slept through the night (the day she turned 13 weeks)! I must say I was very anxious for Emmy to sleep through the night when she was new and I think she did it around the 6 week mark, but I haven't given it much thought with Lilah and did not mind spending time with her during the night. I'm sure the major difference is not having to get out of bed for bottles that need mixed and warmed and then cleaning up spitting up. Lilah has been super simple in the night from the beginning and that has been a blessing.

I love being able to lay down and feed her and get all snugly with her! I should also say that she slept the night through in her own bed (the co sleeper) beside me. She really loves her bed and naps in it during the day very happily. I will usually feed her and cuddle her to sleep at night and then pop her into her bed and then she'd have a feed between 1-3 am, but last night she slept right through. Tomorrow Grandma Jan will be watching the girls over night so hopefully this means she'll get some sleep!

Lilah's 3 months old!

I'm 3 Months Old!!

Lilah is 13 lbs or 5900g. She's 22.83 inches or 58 cm long and is in the 60% percentile for her weight and 30% for her length. Last year at this time Emmy weighted in at a whopping 16 lbs and 25.75 inches! Click here to go back to see Emmy at 12 weeks old.

Her normal routine still consists of lots of eating and sleeping, but she's starting to enjoy sitting up in the bumbo and bebe pod and we recently discovered this week that she loves the TV. I put her down on the floor to have a little play while I took care of Emmy's lunch and when I came back she was staring at the TV and kicking her feet. Too funny.... I guess I'll have another signing time junkie!



I also turned her around in the sling so she faces outwards now. Her head is strong enough and when she's awake she's interested in whats going on around her.

Her feeding is still going great and when I have to leave her she'll eventually take her expressed milk from a bottle. Tomorrow while we are out and about we're gonna pick up a new kind of bottle to try out. It's suppose to be very breast like and hopefully she'll like it and it will be less stressful on both her and Grandma Jan when she's being babysat. It's called the Adiri Natural Nurser.


She still doesn't like a passifer which is just fine with me. She's found her fingers and sucks on them at night to put herself back to sleep and it saves me from having to find her passifer and stick it back into her mouth. She doesn't suck on them when she's awake yet.... I took the picture of her sleeping and it woke her up so I snapped another one. This is also a rare photo of her sleeping on her side. She likes to sleep on her tummy and she doesn't like it any other way. It makes me nervous but I check on her alot.

This morning my little Emmy is back. All smiles and happy and obviously feeling much better! I snapped a few cute photo's of her this morning while she was playing on her mat.

Emmy's fever is gone and she's feeling much better but I have sore throat and she was a bit fussy in the night so I'm assuming she does too, but hard to tell since they can't really tell you what's wrong. We've got some running around to do today so I'll be able to ask a pharmacist if there's anything I can do other than give her pain medicine (which I'm sure is all there is) or maybe some teething gel... when swallowed I bet it numbs the throat as well... so we'll see. I didn't post on Friday because she and I were both laid out but she's now 15 weeks! This Friday she'll be a whole 4 months old! I can't believe how fast the time is flying by. I can kinda see how parents say to their 21 years old "oh it was just yesterday that you were a baby" but not really because that seems light years away!

We've had our first fever today. She peaked at 102.3 but has come down since then and depending on her temp in the morning we might have to take her to the doctor. We've called the nurse and she said that we're doing everything that we can for her as far as giving her plenty of fluids, formula, and keeping her in cooler clothing. She's not showing any other signs of illness such as cough or runny nose, but she did vomit this morning directly after a dose of Baby Panadol (like baby Tylenol) right into my mouth and all over my face. There's nothing like cherry flavored vomit to get you going in the morning. Later in the day when the temp went up to the 102.3 I felt like I had no choice, and my mother in law reassured me that we should give her some more pain medicine, but this time we gave her tiny bits and drinks of water in between and that seemed to work and I think we pushed our luck in letting her have all the water she wanted because about 30 min & 120 mls of water later (and she previously had 120 mls of water and 30 mls of formula) she did the largest 4 heaves of vomit and covered me from head to toe and the entire kitchen rug, and I'm not exaggerating...head to toe! Poor little baby girl! She's been handling it very well. She's not cried but a few broken heart whimpers but she's getting lots of love and cuddles and I think Kim is really enjoying her dependentness. He's been able to give her a bottle and do lots of rocking in the glider and usually at night she won't have it and fusses until she's with me. So the positive out of this is some good father daughter bonding!

We had a fun long weekend and went to a 21st birthday party in the river land. It's been over a year since I last had a crazy night out (now I did not set out for this to be a big night, but do I ever?) Thank goodness for Grandma Jan! She saved little Emmy from the madness and she had her first ever sleep over! Here's some pictures from the weekend!!

Emmy was playing on her toy mat this morning and of course she was on her back reaching up for her toys and the next second I look over and she's on her tummy! She rolled over!! I was soo happy and excited and tried to coach her to do it again, haha, but yeah right she said! I'll just have to keep a close watch to catch the next time!!

Yesterday Emmy was laying on her play mat and batting at her toys like she usually does and as I was watching her I saw those little fingers go to work at trying to grab the toy...WHICH SHE DID!!! and then hold it and she did!! I was so excited! She's getting to be so much bigger everyday! We also took our first trip to the Gawler Library. Lots of fun stuff there. Once she gets a bit older and really watches TV there's tons of DVDs to rent although I'm not sure if she'll ever get through the collection of Disney Cartoons and Movies her grandma got her. It's something like 81 cartoons/movies. Don't worry though......... she won't be a potato couch kid *looks away meekly*

what a big girl!

Emmy did a very big girl thing today and did her first pee pee in her own potty! Yay for her! Most of my immediate family is familiar that we have kicked around the idea of ECing at home (Elimination Communication), but I'm not totally sold on the amount of time it takes because I'd rather be reading her books or something educational during that time, but that being said I'm also not shutting the door on giving it a go when I can.

So today I went to change her diaper and I had bought her a potty from Target the other day and this little voice in my head (yes there are voices!) said to sit her on it and cue her. So I was saying "sssSSsssSSss" and she peed!! Now this is not the first time she has made a big girl pee in the pot. She's done number 1 & 2 about a week ago when we gave it a try (we took pictures of that too but it's a bit graphic for the Internet so if there are family members that want to see the hilarious pictures just let me know!). For all of you that are not in my direct circle of phone calls I'm sure you are thinking that I'm nuts... now that's still up for debate but for those of you that want to learn about ECing you can go to Tribal Baby or Diaper Free.

Parenting for me as been a journey of UNlearning everything you thought you knew as well as learning new things. If we don't learn from our pasts then we will only have to repeat it again until we understand. I believe this thought transcends all layers of life. So far this has been some of the most purifying moments of my life and I look forward to more to come ..... enough food for thought!

We found out today that Emmy's new cousin is going to officially be a girl born sometime in October! I can't wait for the fun little dress up party's we're going to have when they get a bit older! OooOO and the Disney movie marathons! Congrats to Lia, Adrian, & Big Sister Bethany!





Today Kingsley snapped a few photo's of Bethany & Emmy together of course they are just the cutest things ever! Bethany is always very fascinated by the baby and just wants so badly to know just how she works and feels. Bethany is going to be such a good leader for our group of little girls.

The other big news is I had Emmy weighted today for her 12 weeks old mark and she's a whopping 7.34 kl or 16 lbs!! I measured her too and she's 65.5 cm or 25.75 inches!! She's off the charts for both weight and height for her age but I had a long chat today with a nurse where I had her weighted and she said that when she sees this in baby's that its very common for them to reach a point where they plateau and will not seem to grow for several months at a time and not to worry. I assumed as much since I was a fat baby at 10 months old and only gained 5 lbs from that point until I was 2 years old.

Other news is our new bed rail for our family bed. Kim got it all installed and fitted in and Emmy is snuggled up on her side sleeping away as I type. I told Kim that if he wants her in our bed and once number 2 comes we'll have to get a bigger bed and he laughed and said probably, but I've always been one for sleeping like puppies so we'll take it one day at a time!

Our newest thing now is Emmy's fear that mom might not be RIGHT THERE BESIDE HER when she sleeps or wakes. Of course the easiest way to fix this is to wear her like I do for alot of the day and her naps, but I do look forward to laying her down and getting the wrap off once in a while and do those jobs that I can't get done with her on me like cleaning the toilet or using other bad chemicals. Today when I laid her down for her big nap she has woke up 3 times in 1.5 hours. I just go into the bedroom and lay down with her and stick her pacifier back in and she passes right back out. If I put the pacifier in and walk away without laying down she doesn't go back to sleep. Now don't get me wrong........ I'm not complaining here and really I think it's rather cute. It's nice that I can lay her down awake next to me at any point and she goes to sleep... oh I hear her ...she's awake for the 4th time but she's just cooing, haha so that's good. It must mean nap time is officially over! Time for a bottle and some storybook reading I'd say!
